Peter Honig and Ce Ce Iandoli open an exhibition of new work at Mercury 20 Gallery on October 5th with a reception for the artists from 6:00 - 9:00pm.

Peter Honig is a Berkeley artist whose work consists of large-scale studio photographs of assemblages of found objects. His commercial-looking digital photographic prints present the viewer with razor-sharp images of cultural ephemera cobbled together in a manner that recalls a junior high-school science project left too long in the trunk of a car. Honig’s “do-it-yourself” constructions seem to thumb their runny noses at the very notion of a refined sculpture based on craftsmanship. Instead, they offer up gritty little models of states of decay that float, preserved, in a formaldehyde-like sea of light within the generous blank margins of the photographs. As product shots of his imagination, these works unite in a no-man’s land located somewhere between the borders of humor and horror.

Peter Honig, artist, professional photographer, and art educator, was born in Boston, MA and attained his BA in Photography at Hampshire College. He has been living and working in Berkeley, California since 1991.

Bay Area artist Ce Ce Iandoli deliberately works with detritus--the leftover junk found on the street, recycled at home, and close to evaporation. She seeks to make something sumptuous or pleasurable out of these beautiful disasters.

Ce Ce Iandoli was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She has been teaching design for 17 years in the Bay Area.

Mercury 20 also presents an ongoing group exhibition in its back gallery. The artwork changes monthly and features new work from the gallery artists. Mercury 20 Gallery is an artist-run gallery in the heart of downtown Oakland; part of the emerging arts district in the Broadway/Telegraph corridor.
