CALL FOR NEW MEMBERS
Mercury 20 is an artist-established and operated gallery located in Oakland , CA. A collective comprised of 20 members, Mercury 20 is dedicated to exhibiting high quality, innovative work from emerging and mid-career artists, and to promoting art in the community.   
 
THE BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP

1.       Mercury 20 members have a two-person exhibition in our front gallery space each year. They also show one work per month in the ongoing group show in the back gallery space. Choice of work to be shown is completely at the discretion of the artist/member.

2.       Members have the opportunity to show their work in downtown Oakland, in the emerging arts district in the Broadway/Telegraph corridor, and participate in the Oakland Art Murmur, a well-attended event held on the first Friday of each month.

3.       Members receive 100% of the sales from their artwork.

4.       By participating in all aspects of running the gallery, members gain an increased level of professional development based on their own interests and motivation. Members initiate and/or choose the gallery projects they wish to explore including planning and participating in exhibitions, maintaining the gallery, hanging shows, publicity and promotions, etc.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES OF MEMBERSHIP

1.       Members are asked to make a one year commitment.

2.       Monthly dues are $130.  All money goes toward rent, supplies and operating costs. 

3.       Gallery-sit for 3 hours per month. 

4.       Attend first Friday openings if possible.

5.       Attend a group meeting which meets once a month, usually on the 2 nd Wednesday from 7:30 to 9:30 . At this meeting, we discuss issues, concerns, projects and make decisions by a consensus, process. 

6.       Members are encouraged to bring new ideas, develop existing plans, and inspire the direction Mercury 20 takes. Members are expected to be active on committees as needed.

Mercury 20 seeks innovative, self-directed members who will be active in gallery operations, events and projects. If you are interested in being considered for membership, please send us an application including:
 
-- Resume, statement, contact info.
-- 10 to 15 images of recent work (No slides, website link or jpegs on CD preferred)
-- List of images with title, size, medium and year
-- Letter of interest. If you have experience as a curator, with exhibitions, art writing, carpentry, grant writing, etc. please give details.  
-- Materials cannot be returned unless accompanied by a self-addressed stamped envelope. Please do not use metered postage.
